Dr. Alison King, BA, ND

Doctor as teacher is a tenet that has profoundly shaped Dr. King’s practice as a naturopath. The cooperative doctor-patient relationship has inherent therapeutic value that she uses to empower her patients to take responsibility for their own health.

After graduating from Bastyr University in 1999 with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. King set up private practice in Seattle Washington at Shenmen Healing Center. As a holistic primary care provider her practice focused on prevention which she feels should be the fundamental goal of any healthcare system. To serve her mainly adult patient base she used whole foods, nutritional counselling, supplements, yoga, botanical, and physical medicine, along with physical exams and laboratory testing. In 2003 Dr.King set up a second office in Samadhi Yoga Center, also in Seattle. Her practice concentrated on treating hormonal imbalances, digestive complaints, depression, weight issues, allergies, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety and arthritis.

From 2008-2012 Dr. King lived in Istanbul Turkey where she provided naturopathic consulting through an organic apothecary and also a yoga center. During this time Dr. King discovered the power of the indigenous herbs and also the water therapies which are widely used in Turkey. In Istanbul her practice focused on treating anxiety, depression, fatigue, stress and digestive complaints.

Dr. King is committed to low intervention therapies focusing on the true naturopathic foundations of health. Without these (whole foods diet, exercise, good mental health and pure water) true balance and vitality will not be achieved. To augment her patient’s vitality Dr. King also uses yoga, supplements and body work. In addition, Dr. King is trained in Cranio Sacral Therapy which is used to treat TMJ syndrome, headaches, stress related complaints, insomnia, anxiety and much more. Dr. King loves to see adults of all ages and speaks French and beginner Turkish.

Currently Dr. King holds licences to practice naturopathic medicine in British Columbia and Washington State. She is a member of the BC Naturopathic Association and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
